YONECO and Nsanje Police have teamed up to launch a Safe Schools Programme in Nsanje district, designed to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of gender.

This initiative is intended to reduce the number of girls who drop out of school due to increased instances of violence and harassment they experience in their schools. Further to this, the initiative is also expected to contribute towards improved performance of girls in the targeted schools.

So far, the Malawi Police Service and YONECO have held a series of educational campaigns in schools across Nchere Education Zone, within the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimombo in the district.

The sessions covered topics such as child rights and responsibilities, types of Gender Based Violence (GBV), crime prevention, school complaint boxes and other reporting mechanisms.
